Thanksgiving Hike 2010

For several years running (actually, make that nine years), we've enjoyed skipping the madness at the airport and have instead spent Thanksgiving at home. For the past three years, this tradition has included celebrating with friends on Friday, which leaves Turkey Day open for adventures. This year, the weather didn't disappoint, so we headed up to Tilden Park in Berkeley for a hike.

We hadn't even made it out of the parking lot before the fun began, with Will hunting for pinecones (sometimes referred to as pineapples!) in the circle of trees in the center of the lot. After nearly a half an hour, Will was satisfied that he had amassed a sufficient collection, and was off and running!

Thanksgiving Turkey Soup

We have a tradition of making Turkey Soup with the bones leftover from our Thanksgiving turkey. This year, Will helped with the prep work!

First we put the carrots in...

(Of course, we needed to pause for a sample!) Then, we shook up the broth and practiced pouring.

After all that hard work, it was time to settle in and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Diving Right In

Will just couldn't wait to get into his jammies before reading The Little Engine That Could last night! Grammy brought him this book, which was Uncle Kit's when he was a little boy. It was a gift from Aunt Debbie, for her "hootin', tootin,' engineer!"

Checking Out the Good Stuff

When drinking his milk, Will likes to periodically check (okay, "periodically" seems like every other sip) to see how much is left. Who knew that milk could be so exciting?! Wow-wee!
